I. The Young Learner

To be a young learner is to be a student of Elementary or Senior School who studies English as a second language between ages of 5-15. Teaching young learners is not an easy activity because it involves many problems that a teacher has to face during the process of learning. As young learners, they are not able to understand the importance of learning English, which causes not to get a successful learning. In this way, young learners do not become interested in learning English because they think that it is just a subject and something that is not going to be helpful for them. When this common issue occurs, the teacher plays an important role in the learning process. He or she has to encourage their students to make learning English an interesting language to learn. Students at this level are afraid of many things like participating in class, answering a question or communicating with their classmates, so it is important that the teacher make his lessons dynamic and provide the necessary tools to get the best learning.

In addition, young learners are students who begin a new stage in their lives and have their own characteristics. They respond to the language that they learn, and their learning is closely linked with their development of ideas and concepts. For children, who are unique learners, learning a new language is easy since they can imitate something easily, so the teachers may mold their expectations of life in school. One important fact to highlight when teaching young learners is that they learn in a fun way. It means that developing activities with them make the class interesting in order that the children can feel a comfortable climate in the classroom. Young learners get bored easily, so the teacher must make young learners have some very fun when learning English.
